The AerotriX Super Challenge - India's Biggest Aeromodelling Competition

The AerotriX Super Challenge is back only to get bigger and better this time!
After receving such an overwhelming response last year, The AerotriX Super Challenge in association with Conscientia, IIST Trivandrum is launched again to bring together the Aero Enthusiasts across India under one roof and to pick the best out of them.

Structure of Competition:

  1. Regional Level Workshops: AerotriX RC Aircraft Workshops would be organized in various institutes across the country.
  2. Regional Level Competitions: At the end of the workshop, top performing teams would be picked at each location. These teams would be invited to IIST Trivandrum during Conscientia in Mar 2014.
  3. Grand Final Competition: A Grand Final will happen at IIST Trivandrum on 9th March 2014 & at NHCE Bangalore on 30th March 2014 where finalists would compete with each other to bring out the Champions.

PROBLEM STATEMENT:

Design / Build / Demonstrate a RC Aircraft which has an environmental impact
Problem Description : Modify the aircraft that you built in the regional workshop or build a new aircraft for Environmental purpose. Design, implement and demonstrate a mechanism for increasing the efficiency or to ease or introduce a new practice for using RC Aircraft to overcome any environmental problem that you think should be eradicated and which will be beneficial for our Country. The mechanism developed has to be:
  1. Feasible
  2. Economic
  3. Suitable to the Indian context
  4. This can be a ground demonstration or a real flying aircraft. You are required to demonstrate your product and convince the judges that your plane, if manufactured as per your design, would fly and would be useful to overcome the environment problem that it is designed for.
The Aerotrix Super Challenge Finals will be conducted in three phases:
  • Round 1: Test Your Knowledge
  • The participants will have to take a written test on the concepts relevant to the RC Aircraft Workshop. This is to test your level of understanding of the concepts about the RC Aircraft. It is an Open Book Exam - You can bring any material/ book/ papers etc. to the exam.

  • Round 2: Report Submission
  • A brief report giving details about your idea and design of the aircraft that you are going to present the judges should include the following
    1. Calculations to prove your design will work
    2. How will this plane be useful? What will be the impact?

  • Round 3: Demonstration of the model based on Super Challenge Problem Statement
  • This round will involve the participants to demonstrate the physical model/ mechanism (if any) and make a presentation about the changes made to their aircraft and describe in detail their entire idea. The teams will be given 10 minutes for this round - 7 minutes of presentation and 3 minutes of Q&A
Background of the Problem Statement: Air pollution, water pollution, garbage, and pollution of the natural environment are all challenges for India. According to data collection and environment assessment studies of World Bank experts, between 1995 through 2010, India has made one of the fastest progress in the world, in addressing its environmental issues and improving its environmental quality. Still, India has a long way to go to reach environmental quality similar to those enjoyed in developed economies. Pollution remains a major challenge and opportunity for India.
Environmental issues are one of the primary causes of disease, health issues and long term livelihood impact for India.
So here is an opportunity for young minds like you to come up with a solution for the above issues. Present us with your brilliant ideas and make us believe in your idea and win the COMPETION!! Remember an IDEA CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
